Black leather Butterfly Chair by Jorge Ferrari Hardoy for Knoll circa 1950’s
Designed in 1937 by three architects (Jorge Ferrari-Hardoy, Antonio Bonet and Juan Kurchan) this was a radical design of the time, inspired by a classic of military outfitting: the ‘Tripolina’, a folding armchair used by the British army and designed by Joseph B. Fenby in 1877. Between 1947 and 1951, the Butterfly Chair was present in the Knoll catalogue, and since its debut has been a huge success as a symbol of lightness, freedom, and a lifestyle that evokes an informal elegance
