Description
A fabulously chic and stylish 1950’s lounge chair by E Gomme/G plan (model number B414) that has been newly upholstered in an oyster white, flame retardant, boucle fabric. It is described in the original catalogue as an “Easy chair with comfortably designed sloping arms”. A Radio Times advert in August 1956 notes ‘New Luxury Look for your Home. Styling with Italian inspiration gives your rooms new grace and elegance.’This rarely found model, epitomises the glamour, tailoring and pride in home comforts, that we associate with the period.
Why buy me? With my fresh, new, boucle upholstery I look bang on trend. I was made in an era when furniture was built to stand the test of time and here I am, still standing proud. Still ooozing with elegance and style and, even more importantly, still providing an undeniably comfortable, resting place.
The chair is in good condition, it is structurally sound and has had its original webbing replaced by a previous owner. An additional wooden strut has been added to the underneath of the chair, this does not seem to have any structural significance and was most probably used to secure the previous upholstery fabric. The chair has recently been reupholstered in a flame-retardant fabric and foam. As with any vintage/pre-loved piece, the odd scratch or bruise should be expected, we aim to point out any major defects but please study the images that we provide for an honest representation of the condition. If you have any questions, please send us a message and we will do our best to answer them.
