Description

Mid Century, hand-painted teak and glass-fronted display cabinet.

Refurbished and transformed into a stunning sculptural artwork by collaborative art duo Gilda and Lily.

The cabinet of curiosities is a truly original and one-off statement piece featuring vintage insects, pigeon and ram skulls, 24 ct gold leaf, and a natural diamond! encased within the artist’s signature mixed-media sculptural environment.

This piece is from Gilda and Lily’s 2018 ‘Curious Eulogy’ series. The collection of art showcases the core, simplistic beauty of each animal or bird hidden beneath the ephemeral top layer that so often blinds us to their uniqueness. The luminous individuality of each bone speaks directly to the viewer once the outer layers have been shed.

No animals or insects we killed for their art, all had died from natural causes. Most specimens were taken from the artists’ personal finds or purchased from reputable wildlife parks or taxidermists.

All gold applied to the artwork is 100% real gold leaf and each original piece is signed and a real diamond will be twinkling from Gilda and Lily’s favourite addition to the canvas.

Gilda and Lily’s creative projects have been driven by their combined interest in: the curation of objects, entomology and osteology. Their priority in each collaboration has been to create an accurate reflection of the human psyche without closing down the imagination of the audience. To this end, it is anticipated that the textured space will liberate the viewer whilst the formal curation will offer certainty, anchored in the natural world.
